Trip To The Oregon Zoo

My family and I went to the Oregon Zoo and had a great time. I haven’t been there in years and it’s just as much fun as it was back then. It’s great for all ages and it’s something fun to do outdoors after a long winter. My favorite animal this time was the Otter. They swam right next to the glass where I was standing. Which was really cool to see an animal up that close. My least favorite animal was the giant Anaconda they have there… I took one look at it and left that part of the zoo. I do not like any snakes. Here is the web site you can check out for more information. I am defiantly sharing my time spent at the Oregon Zoo with all my co-workers at Dick Hannah Honda.

Local Family Fun!

Looking for an indoor activity that is great exercise and tons of fun? Try Roller Skating. My family and I went to Oaks Park in Portland Oregon and roller skated. We all had a blast and it didn’t cost a fortune. They play good music and on Wednesdays it’s only $4.50 for 2 ½ hours of skating plus your skate rental and a free small pop if you are a Bi-Mart member. Check out there web site for more information at oakspark.com/skating.html

I do recommend though if you are not a great skater that knee pads and wrist guards are always a good idea. Also if you don’t have your own skates that you bring 2 pair of socks for extra cushion for the skates they lend you. They have seen better days. It’s fun for all ages. Get out there and Skate!

American Idol Update!

American idol now has its top 12! So far no one has WOW‘d me yet. Hopefully soon. I like all the girls this season. They each have there own unique sound. The guys are good as well but I think it will be a female that wins this season!! Also I think the judges tend to say the same thing each week to the contestants. They say they want better song choice from contestants and then when they sing a song that suits them they say they didn’t make it their own. The judges confuse me sometimes. I still love having Ellen Degeneres on the show, she is hilarious. Tonight they all sing in one show instead of girls one night and the guys the next. Can’t wait to watch!!

Delicious Vancouver Cafe

My husband and I found this café by his work. We’ve eaten there twice and loved it each time. If you want some great Hawaiian Food at a reasonable price you must try this place. It’s located on 5000 E. Fourth Plain Blvd. A101 Vancouver, WA. 98661. The staff is very friendly and the café is decorated with Hawaiian stuff which I think is very cool. Here is some more information about it…..

Hawaiian Time Cafe specializes in true Hawaiian style plate lunches found in the islands. From island favorites like Chicken Katsu, Loco Moco, Spam Musubi, to our signature “Mauna Loa Chicken”, we have something for everyone. We also serve the best Saimin you will find outside of the islands, including the signature “Kawika’s House Saimin” featuring Portuguese Sausage, Eggs, and Rice.

All of our plate lunches come with rice and local style macaroni salad. Here are our featured items on the menu:

Kekoa’s Special - Teriyaki Beef, Honolulu Plate - Korean Beef, Huli Huli Chicken, Kalua Pig, Chop Steak

Mauna Loa Chicken, Garden Mix, Loco Moco, Portuguese Sausage, Eggs, and Rice

Chicken Katsu, Chinese Chicken Salad

And much more!

History
Established in 1997
Hawaiian Time Cafe was founded in Eugene, OR located in the Gold’s Gym on 3rd and Lawrence. After a successful start, HTC expanded to neighboring Springfield, OR off of Centennial Blvd. In 2003, Kekoa (the Founder) sold the restaurants to long-time customers who currently operate locations in Oregon.

In October 2009, after managing retail stores and graduating from the University of Oregon, Kawika (Kekoa’s son), decided to open a HTC of his own. Check out our website at HawaiianTimeCafe.com to see pictures of Kawika and Kekoa building the first Vancouver, WA location.

On January 6th, 2010, Hawaiian Time opened its doors in Vancouver, WA and has been serving tasty Hawaiian dishes ever since. So, if you are an old customer of the original Hawaiian Time in Eugene and missed us, “We’re Back!”

Meet the Business Owner: Kawika H.

Kawika is the owner and operator of Hawaiian Time Cafe in Vancouver, WA. He is the son of Kekoa, who founded HTC in Eugene, OR back in 1997.

I am so impressed with this place that I and going to tell my FaceBook friends and co-workers at Dick Hannah Honda about it.

American Idol!

American Idol has finally started in my opinion now that all the auditions and Hollywood week are over. They have chosen the top 24 and now the competition begins. So far I have two favorites but we’ll see how that goes. They don’t always show everyone in the beginning of the season.
The two I like so far are Casey James and Andrew Garcia.

The Girls perform Tuesday so that will give me a chance to see who I really like from the girls. I can’t even imagine the pressure they go through but I think if it’s something that you really really want you will do great!  I also am glad Ellen DeGeneres is on the show, I think she is so funny and I’ve notice that Simon seems a little nicer now that Paula is gone? We will see if that will continue.

My Co-worker at Dick Hannah Honda (and fellow LiveLoveAndDrive lady), Kim Kirkpatrick watches American Idol as well and we always talk about who sang best and who looked the best the following day.  So lots more to come… stay tuned!

Dog On It

Incredibly creative and fun to read!!! I love that the book is written from the dog’s perspective. Absolutely ingenious. I couldn’t stop laughing. If you love dogs, you will love this book.
This fun mystery introduces two memorable characters: Chet the Jet, the narrator is a lovable dog who failed K-9 school. The story is told from Chet’s point of view. Chet works cheap, (just feed him well), he doesn’t talk back, and is a loyal companion to Bernie.Bernie little, part owner of Little Detective Agency. He is divorced and strapped for money because of his alimony and child support debts. Bernie is hired to find a fifteen-year old girl who disappears, reappears and disappears again. When Madison disappears the second time Chet and Bernie are on the case and the antics begin. Chet knows were Madison is but he can’t speak so he can’t tell his owner, and since he doesn’t understand why they are looking for her, he often falls asleep at inappropriate times during the investigation. There is one touching part where Chet ends up in an animal shelter and learns more than he cares to about euthanasia.

The Chet and Bernie characters are memorable, they’ll make you laugh when you least expect it. If you like fun mysteries, and have a soft spot for lovable pooches (especially one with a nose for solving mysteries), Dog on It, is a fun story that is sure to please. I love this book and just got done reading his second book in this series.
Called Thereby Hangs a Tail.  It is just as good.
I am a huge dog lover, and I find myself looking at my own dogs wondering if there thinking the same as Chet did. Haha…who knows

Just Dance!

This is the Wii game we played at my Mother’s 60th Birthday party. And let me tell you, if you love to dance and get a workout at the same time, this is the game for you. You can pop it into your Wii system and see how well you can dance. If your not a good dancer, but know how to laugh at yourself you will be rolling on the floor laughing by the time your done playing. It is also a great way to get up off your couch and burn some of those calories off, and have lots of fun doing it. With popular hits from many eras this will surely have you getting on your feet to test your dance skills and, or your ability to have fun and enjoy yourself. Play alone, if your not ready to show off your moves, or challenge friends and see who can get the beat and earn a score of excellent, for every move you are slightly off you get good, and for every missed beat you get an x. You can also play a game of red light green light, where you dance until you get a sign that lets you know to freeze. You loose points if you are still moving after that sign has come up. With over 30 songs there is a variety of music and styles to choose from. It’s fun for all ages. It was one of my mother’s presents but I went out and bought it the next day. I highly recommend this game!
