The North American division of Honda announced today it has donated two Dog Friendly Honda Elements to the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, as both vehicles will be used to transport rescued dogs throughout the Western U.S.
“Honda’s Dog Friendly Element is the perfect vehicle to support The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation’s mission,” said Steve Center, vice president of marketing operations for American Honda, in a release. “Honda is thrilled to be able to support their effort to transport rescue dogs and help find them new homes.”
“It’s so great Honda has figured out how to make the car rides for dogs – one of their favorite pastimes – even better,” said Katherine Heigl, co-founder of the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation. “These pet-friendly vehicles will be a big help for our work with homeless shelter animals who need rescue and medical treatment.”
The Dog Friendly equipment on the Element, launched in late 2009, is destined to increase accommodation and comfort for dogs and their owners (in this case, rescuers).
Priced at $995, the equipment is incorporated into the Element EX and will allow a secure transportation of a dog in the cargo area within a nylon-webbed car kennel, which also prevents the dog to reaching the driver.
“The Dog Friendly Element’s equipment enhances comfort by providing a soft floor surface for the dog’s legs and paws along with a dedicated fan and a spill resistant water bowl. Convenience is improved for owners with an integrated ramp that is stored underneath the bed platform and can be easily accessed when the rear tailgate is down,” a company statement reads.

J.D. Power and Associates has named the 2007 Honda CR-V, Fit and Ridgeline as the “most-dependable” vehicles in their respective segments in its 2010 Vehicle Dependability Study℠ (VDS).
The study, which measures problems experienced by original owners of three-year-old vehicles (2007 model year), includes 198 different problem symptoms across all areas of the vehicle. Overall dependability is determined by the level of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The industry average for all vehicles in the 2010 VDS survey measured 155 PP100.
The CR-V compact multi-activity vehicle received an overall score of 113 PP100. The Fit subcompact received an overall score of 137 PP100, and the Ridgeline midsize pickup received an overall score of 109 PP100. The Honda Accord was also among the top three models in the midsize car segment with a score of 103 PP100. J.D. Power and Associates also measures initial quality of new vehicles. Last year the CR-V and the Honda Ridgeline pickup ranked highest in their respective segments in the company’s 2009 Initial Quality Study℠ (IQS). The Honda CR-V ranked highest for IQS in its segment for the third consecutive year, with an IQS score of 93 PP100, and the Honda Ridgeline truck ranked highest in the midsize pickup segment, with an IQS score of 81 PP100.

TORRANCE, Calif. – March 16, 2010 – Honda will recall approximately 344,000 Odyssey and 68,000 Element vehicles from the 2007-2008 model years in the U.S. to modify the Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) modulator. Honda has received customer complaints of brake pedals that feel “soft” or that gradually exhibit a pedal height that gets lower (closer to the floor) before the vehicle stops. In affected vehicles, this condition tends to very slowly increase over time.
Some VSA modulators were assembled in a manner that could allow air intrusion, making it possible for air to enter the modulator during the VSA self-check mode. While only a miniscule amount of air can enter the system during each check, over a period of months or years, the air will accumulate and can result in the “soft brake pedal” or “low brake pedal” condition symptoms associated with this issue. Although not all vehicles being recalled are affected by this issue, we are recalling all possible units to assure all customers that their vehicles will perform correctly.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of these vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification from Honda that their vehicle is affected. Notification to customers will start at the end of April.
Once owners of these vehicles receive written notification of this recall from Honda, they should contact their authorized Portland Honda dealer to schedule an appointment for repair. When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end in addition to contacting customers by mail, after April 19, 2010, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle requires repair by going on-line or calling. Honda owners can go to www.recalls.honda.com or call (800) 999-1009, and select option 4. Please feel free to contact us at Dick Hannah Hondawith any questions!
