Summary of Honda Announcements Regarding New Advanced Environmental Technologies

Battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will be introduced in the U.S. in 2012; Demonstration program of the technologies will begin in 2010
Honda will introduce new advanced environmental technology vehicles, including a battery-electric vehicle and a new plug-in hybrid vehicle, to the U.S. market in 2012, the company announced today in the mid-year address by Honda Motor Co., Ltd., President & CEO Takanobu Ito, in Tokyo, Japan. Ito also announced application of a lithium-ion battery in the next-generation Civic Hybrid in 2011.

The announcement outlined Honda’s commitment to developing advanced environmental technologies for application across all of Honda’s global operations. Highlights specifically related to the U.S. market include:

By the end of 2010 and continuing through 2011, Honda will roll out a battery-electric vehicle demonstration program in the U.S. with participants, including: Stanford University, Google Inc. and the City of Torrance, Calif.
The City of Torrance will receive a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle for evaluation by the end of 2010.
A battery-electric commuter vehicle will be introduced in the U.S. market in 2012.
A new plug-in hybrid system for mid-size to larger vehicles will be introduced in the U.S. market in 2012.
Honda’s first hybrid application of a lithium-ion battery will debut in the next- generation Civic Hybrid to be introduced in 2011. The lithium-ion battery was developed through the Honda and GS Yuasa joint-venture company, Blue Energy Co., Ltd.

“Just One Thing!” We have all heard this environmentally friendly call to action. If we each did that one thing, the global chain reaction would make a huge impact on the planet’s well being. By nature, the automotive industry requires the use of many chemicals and other hazardous items. However, by properly handling, disposing and recycling as much of those items as possible, we at Dick Hannah Honda can lessen our impact just like anyone else.

Over the last 11 Months, the Dick Hannah Honda Service department has consumed (and thrown in the trash) 5,220 aerosol cans of Brake Cleaner. In addition to cleaning brake components, we use it to keep our customer’s cars clean and their driveways free of those pesky oil drips after service work. As of March 2010, we have switched over to the refillable Sure Shot cans. Not only do we spare the dumpster from the onslaught of aerosol cans (almost 6,000 a Year!), the Sure Shots use simple compressed air to propel the solvent, dramatically reducing the amount of those nasty gasses that affect the ozone. The fluid to refill these cans comes in a single 55 gallon drum which is also recycled.

“Just one thing” is not really an applicable phrase here at Dick Hannah Honda. In my opinion, we never stop with just ONE thing. Our list of “one things” is huge and growing every day! It gives me great pride to work for a company that supports an environmental mindset, even when it sometimes costs a bit more to do it the right way.

Its cleaning time folks!! Call me crazy but I actually love to Spring Clean, I know … where am I from?.. So I have already started and I also have gone all green ! I had some issues last year with all my normal cleaning supplies, I’m a bit of clean freak so I thought if it stinks and hurts my eyes then it must be doing its job right?? Dick Hannah Honda wants to save you time and money, just 3 Clicks of your gas cap at the pump can do it!!

This is true for all models from 1996 to current models. If the cap is loose it is unable to pull a vacuum to capture the fuel vapors, thus sending a message to the vehicles computer popping on that “Check Engine Light” that we all hate to see. This is part of the emissions system keeping our cars green :) Most people see this light and take it immediately into the shop, which I would do, for 2 reasons, the thought of not knowing what’s wrong with your vehicle and two the light is extremely annoying. This can be a costly trip to have the diagnostic test ran to see what message it is sending and why.

We want to actually burn the costly gas these days not let it escape into the air right?? So make sure you click 3 times to insure a tight seal, keep our earth green and keep the green stuff in your pocket!
